They say that the youth of today are rude, loud, and completely without morals and values. Although that may be true about some of them, and some adults too for that matter, what I witnessed Friday night was far from it. After the referee collapsed on the sideline of the Dothan-Eufaula game, you could hear a pin drop as medics were frantically trying to revive him. I have included a picture of the scene from Friday night. It is a scene of some of our football players huddled up together praying for him. What you can't see in the picture is the other side of the field. On that side, the Eufaula players were also huddled up praying. It was at that very moment that football did not matter anymore to anyone. It was at that moment that we were all reminded just how precious life really is. As a teacher for the past 15 years, I can honestly say that today's teenagers are awesome! Please rest assured that they do still have morals and values. And as the two teams demonstrated Friday night, they also still have a belief in our awesome God!
This is one of the most validating, life-affirming messages I've ever read. My dad always says a person's character is defined in crisis. These remarkable young men demonstrated their strength of faith and character Friday night, and I'm humbled to bear witness to it by deputy.
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing this aspect of the core story. This speaks to all of us.
Although a tragic event occured, it's just like the Lord to shine His light during such an event. What I see in that picture is absolute beauty. That makes my heart happy to know that those teenage boys turned to the Lord in that moment. What hope! What faith! What an absolute beautiful thing to witness! God created beauty out of chaos once again. Thank you for sharing this story.
ReplyDeleteI have to agree with both of the above comments. However, I also feel sorrow for this man's family and for all of you who had to witness the sudden death of this man. However, at the same time, it is at a moment such as that, when all of the bad disappears in people and they are humbled to pray to the Lord our God even if it has been years since they have done so. Let's pray that this continues to humble people and the youth in our society today.
